About What Is HVAC
Plain-English UK guides to heating, cooling and ventilation, and a free way to get quotes from registered engineers.
What we do
HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning: everything that keeps a building warm, fresh and dry. Most people only think about it when something breaks or a quote lands that doesn’t make sense. We explain how each system works in a British home, what it should cost and which rules apply, so you can make the decision with confidence.
When you’re ready for a price, our quote form passes your request to engineers who cover your postcode and hold the right registration for the job: Gas Safe for gas work, MCS for heat pumps, F-Gas for air conditioning and OFTEC for oil. We don’t carry out the work ourselves, and we never charge you for a quote.
Who writes the guides
Every guide and city page is researched and written by The WhatIsHVAC Team. Prices and figures come from named sources such as GOV.UK, Ofgem, the Energy Saving Trust, Which?, water companies and the 2021 Census, and each page lists its sources.
