The WhatIsHVAC Team
We write plain-English UK guides to heating, cooling and ventilation, checked against official and industry sources.
The WhatIsHVAC Team researches and writes every guide on this site. We cover the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems found in British homes: boilers, heat pumps, radiators, air conditioning, ventilation, damp and the grants that help pay for upgrades.
Our aim is simple: explain how each system works, what it really costs and what the rules are, so you can talk to an engineer with confidence and spot a bad quote.
How we write and check our guides
- Prices and figures come from named sources such as GOV.UK, Ofgem, the Energy Saving Trust, Which?, manufacturers and trade bodies, listed at the end of each guide.
- Each guide shows the date it was last updated, and we recheck prices when the energy price cap or grant rules change.
- Safety advice follows Gas Safe Register, OFTEC and manufacturer guidance. We never suggest DIY gas work.
- We don't accept payment to recommend products or installers in our guides.
