Ventilation installation in Newcastle
Better fans, loft-mounted PIV or full heat recovery for airtight homes. We pass your request to ventilation installers who work across Newcastle.
Damp complaints in Newcastle come mostly from homes that were sealed up without thinking about air. Fireplaces were blocked, single glazing was replaced and draughts were stopped, but the moisture from cooking, showers and drying clothes still has to go somewhere.
Student houses in Jesmond and Heaton are a classic case: four or five people showering and drying washing indoors in a terrace built for one family.

- Durham, a short way south of Tyneside, reached 36.9°C on 19 July 2022, beating its 155-year record by 4.0°C. The Met Office also noted power cuts in parts of the North East that day. Source
- Social housing repairs
- Since 27 October 2025, Awaab's Law makes social landlords in England investigate damp and mould that poses a significant risk within 10 working days and finish safety work within 5 working days of the investigation. Source
Start with the fans
A kitchen and bathroom fan that actually extracts at the rate in Building Regulations is the cheapest fix. Many older fans are undersized, wired to the light so they stop when you leave, or ducted into the loft instead of outside.
A humidistat fan that runs on until the room dries out is often all a small flat needs.
Positive input ventilation
A PIV unit sits in the loft and pushes filtered air into the landing, which pushes damp air out through the home's natural gaps. It suits houses and upper Tyneside flats with their own loft. Lower flats can use a wall-mounted version.
Heat recovery for airtight homes
MVHR extracts stale air from wet rooms and supplies fresh air to living rooms and bedrooms, passing it through a heat exchanger. It works best in new or deeply retrofitted homes. On the newer estates at the city edge, some homes already have it, and the filters need changing to keep it working.
In summer, a bypass mode helps cool the house overnight. That helped on 19 July 2022, when nearby Durham reached 36.9°C.
If you rent from a social landlord
27.3% of Newcastle households rent from a social landlord. Since October 2025, Awaab's Law has set fixed deadlines for investigating damp and mould that poses a significant risk. Report it in writing and ask whether better ventilation is part of the fix.

Questions people in Newcastle ask
Will a dehumidifier do the same job?
It helps in one room but doesn't change the air. Ventilation deals with the source across the home.
Do I need permission to fit a PIV unit in a flat?
In an upper flat with its own loft, usually not, but leaseholders should check the lease. A wall-mounted unit through an outside wall may need the freeholder's consent.
