Boiler servicing in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole

A Gas Safe registered engineer checks the boiler is burning safely and catches wear before winter. We pass your request to engineers who cover your BH postcode.

More than a third of households across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole own their home outright, a much higher share than in most English cities. With no mortgage lender or landlord asking for paperwork, it is easy for a yearly service to slip, especially on a boiler that seems to be working fine.

Skipping it is a false economy. A carbon monoxide leak gives no warning, and most manufacturer warranties lapse without a stamped service record.

Owned outright
34.4% of BCP households owned their home outright in 2021, and 25.4% rented privately. Source

What the engineer checks

They test the gas pressure and flow, take off the case, inspect and clean the burner and heat exchanger, check seals and the condensate trap, and analyse the flue gases. They also check the flue run and terminal outside, and that safety devices shut the boiler down when they should.

Ask for the result to be written in the boiler's logbook or the manufacturer's app, and keep any paperwork with the warranty.

Water here is softer than elsewhere on the south coast

Bournemouth Water describes most of its supply as moderately hard, rating it about seven out of ten. That is gentler on boilers than the chalk water further east, but scale still forms on hot surfaces over a boiler's life.

If you are on another supplier near the BCP boundary, or your boiler has a history of scale, ask the engineer to check hot water flow on a combi.

Holiday and private lets

A quarter of BCP households rent privately, and many more homes are let to holidaymakers. HSE gas safety rules apply to holiday lets as well as long tenancies: each gas appliance and flue must be checked every 12 months, with the record kept for two years.

Bournemouth homes and what they need

Interwar and post-war semis and detached houses

Detached homes often have a regular boiler, a cylinder and a cold water tank in the loft. Ask the engineer to check the cylinder thermostat and any zone valves too.

Flats in converted villas and purpose-built blocks

Purpose-built blocks in the town centre and along the cliffs often have long horizontal flues. The engineer must see the terminal outside, so tell them where it comes out.

Bungalows across the suburbs and Christchurch

Bungalow boilers sit in the kitchen or a utility room with a short flue. Keep the area round the terminal clear of plants and garden furniture.

Areas covered

Engineers who cover Bournemouth work across areas including Boscombe, Southbourne, Westbourne, Winton, Charminster, Kinson, Moordown, Pokesdown, Christchurch and Poole.

Questions people in Bournemouth ask

Is a service the same as a gas safety check?

No. A safety check confirms the appliance is safe. A service also cleans and maintains it. Landlords need the check; owners benefit from the service.

When should I book?

Spring or summer, when engineers are less busy and any parts can be ordered before you need the heating.
