Home Heating grants Aberdeen

Heating grants in Aberdeen

The grants and loans open to Aberdeen households in 2026, who can apply, and where to start.

Grant schemes in Scotland are different from England's. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme does not apply here. Instead, Home Energy Scotland is the front door for Scottish Government funding, and its advisers can tell you which scheme fits your home and income.

Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan

Homeowners can get up to £7,500 in grant towards a heat pump or other clean heating system, with an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500 on top. Insulation and other efficiency measures can attract grant of up to 75% of the cost, capped at £7,500. You do not need to be on benefits.

The home must be your only or main residence. Loans carry a 1.5% admin fee capped at £150. Funding is first come, first served until it runs out or the financial year ends.

Insulation first in Aberdeen

Aberdeen has some of the least insulated homes in Scotland. Only 44% of walls were insulated in 2022 to 2024, and 12% of homes had less than 100mm in the loft. Loft, cavity and solid wall insulation are all on Home Energy Scotland's list, and they cut bills whether or not you change your heating.

Warmer Homes Scotland

For households on lower incomes, Warmer Homes Scotland can fund insulation, draught-proofing and heating upgrades. Home Energy Scotland says the criteria were widened in 2025, taking in age, income, health and the home's energy efficiency, so it is worth asking again if you were turned down before.

ECO4

The supplier-funded ECO4 scheme runs across Great Britain until 31 December 2026, and installs must be finished by then. There will be no direct successor.

Aberdeen homes and what they need

Granite tenement flats

Owners can apply for their own flat, but anything on the outside of the building, such as wall insulation, needs the other owners. Internal wall insulation is often the only realistic option.

Postwar and later suburban semis

Cavity wall and loft insulation are cheap, quick and well funded. Many of these houses are good heat pump candidates once that is done.

Granite villas and larger detached houses

The £7,500 caps can go quickly on a large home. Use the interest-free loan to cover the rest of a heat pump or solid wall insulation.

Areas covered

Engineers who cover Aberdeen work across areas including Rosemount, Old Aberdeen, Torry, Ferryhill, Cults, Bieldside, Dyce, Bridge of Don, Kincorth and Westhill.
