Heating grants in Dundee
What funding is open to Dundee households in 2026, who qualifies and how to start.
Dundee has one of the highest fuel poverty rates in Scotland, 38% in 2022 to 2024, so it pays to check every scheme before you spend your own money. In Scotland the starting point is Home Energy Scotland, which gives free advice and handles applications for the main Scottish Government schemes.

If money is tight: Warmer Homes Scotland
Warmer Homes Scotland funds insulation, draught-proofing and heating improvements for households who qualify. The criteria were widened in 2025 and now consider age, income, health and how energy efficient the home is. Home Energy Scotland says the support can be worth £10,000 or more, and an approved contractor, Warmworks, manages the work.
If you were turned down in the past, apply again. The new rules may include you.
For homeowners: Grant and Loan
The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan is not means tested. It offers up to £7,500 in grant for a heat pump, plus an optional interest-free loan of up to £7,500. Insulation and efficiency work can get grant of up to 75% of the cost, capped at £7,500. You need to own the property and live in it as your main home.
What does not apply here
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is for England and Wales only. ECO4, funded by energy suppliers, runs until 31 December 2026 across Great Britain, and the Great British Insulation Scheme closed in March 2026.
Avoiding scams
Genuine schemes do not charge you to check eligibility. If a cold caller asks for a fee to secure a free boiler, hang up and call Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282 to check.
Dundee homes and what they need
Victorian stone tenements
Shared buildings make external work harder. Internal measures, such as heating upgrades and loft insulation on the top floor, are usually quicker to fund.
Four-in-a-block and postwar flats
Homes with old electric heating are strong candidates for Warmer Homes Scotland heating upgrades.
Suburban semis and bungalows
Cavity and loft insulation come first. A heat pump with the Grant and Loan then becomes a much better fit.
Areas covered
Engineers who cover Dundee work across areas including Broughty Ferry, West End, Lochee, Stobswell, Hilltown, Menzieshill, Downfield, Fintry, Douglas and Monifieth.
Questions people in Dundee ask
Can tenants get help?
Some schemes help tenants, depending on the landlord and the work. Call Home Energy Scotland to find out what applies to your home.
Do I need an EPC to apply?
Not for the Grant and Loan itself, but Home Energy Scotland may arrange a home assessment to recommend which measures to fund. Have any recent EPC to hand when you call.
