Heating grants in Bradford
Grants open to Bradford households for insulation, heat pumps and heating upgrades, and what to check before you apply.
Bradford Council received £6,330,820 for the Warm Homes: Local Grant, the biggest allocation of any West Yorkshire council on the government's list. With a third of the district's homes in older terraces, many of them hard to heat, there's a lot of need for it.

Who the local grant is for
The home must be privately owned, either by you or a private landlord, and rated EPC D to G. Household income should usually be £36,000 or under. Living in certain postcodes or receiving certain benefits can qualify you above that limit.
Apply on GOV.UK, where an eligibility checker asks the questions. If you qualify and funding is available, the council arranges a survey and the agreed work at no cost to you. Landlords may need to pay part.
It can cover insulation, heat pumps, solar panels and smart controls.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Anyone in England switching from fossil fuel heating to a heat pump can get £7,500 for an air or ground source system, or £2,500 for air-to-air. Your MCS certified installer applies. There's a £1,500 top-up for oil and LPG homes with no gas main until March 2027.
ECO4 and GBIS
The Great British Insulation Scheme ended in March 2026, and Ofgem says ECO4 runs only until 31 December 2026. Don't count on either for new work now.
Grants by home type in Bradford
Stone-built terraces and back-to-backs
Solid stone walls and old windows often mean an EPC of E or worse, inside the local grant's range. Internal insulation and loft work are likely to be offered.
Interwar and post-war semis
Cavity wall and loft insulation are the quick wins. A garden makes the national heat pump grant a realistic next step.
Large Victorian stone houses
These can have very low EPC ratings, but income limits still apply. If you're above them, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme has no means test.
Areas covered
Engineers who cover Bradford work across areas including Heaton, Manningham, Shipley, Saltaire, Bingley, Baildon, Idle, Eccleshill, Thornton and Wibsey.
Questions people in Bradford ask
I rent from a housing association. Can I apply?
Not for the Warm Homes: Local Grant, which covers privately owned homes. Ask your housing association about its own upgrade plans.
How do I spot a grant scam?
Real schemes don't ask for a fee to check eligibility or book a survey. If a caller asks for money upfront, hang up and contact the council directly.
Do I need a current EPC?
Yes. Look up your certificate on GOV.UK. If it has expired, the grant team may arrange a new assessment as part of the survey, so apply anyway.
