Home Heating grants Ipswich

Heating grants in Ipswich

The schemes that can help Ipswich households with insulation and heating, and who qualifies.

Ipswich doesn't run its own scheme. The borough is part of a Suffolk consortium that won £6,183,974 from the Warm Homes: Local Grant, delivered as Warm Homes Suffolk. The same scheme covers Kesgrave, Martlesham and Rushmere, which sit in East Suffolk district.

Warm Homes Suffolk

Homeowners and private tenants can apply if the home is rated EPC D, E, F or G and they meet one route: gross household income under £36,000, living in a pre-eligible postcode, receiving a means-tested benefit, or having a severe or long-term health condition made worse by a cold home.

Measures can include insulation, solar panels and heat pumps. Check eligibility on the Warm Homes Suffolk website or by phone.

The pot is limited, so apply early rather than waiting for winter.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

England-wide, with no income test. It pays £7,500 towards an air or ground source heat pump and £2,500 towards some air-to-air systems. Your MCS installer applies. Homes on oil or LPG with no gas connection get an extra £1,500 until March 2027.

ECO4 and closed schemes

ECO4, funded by energy companies, runs until 31 December 2026, but funding is tight. Its sister scheme for insulation, GBIS, stopped at the end of March 2026.

How to apply

Check your EPC on the GOV.UK register first. Then use the Warm Homes Suffolk website or call its team to check your postcode and income route. A surveyor visits to confirm what work is suitable before anything is installed.

Ipswich homes and what they need

1930s and postwar semis

Empty cavities and thin loft insulation often put these at EPC D, so cavity and loft insulation are common grant measures.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

Solid walls usually mean a lower rating. Internal or external wall insulation is expensive, so grant funding makes a real difference.

Newer estates and apartments

Most newer homes rate C or better, so they won't qualify for the local grant. Electric-heated flats from older blocks may still rate D or lower.

Areas covered

Engineers who cover Ipswich work across areas including Kesgrave, Martlesham, Rushmere St Andrew, Whitton, Chantry, Pinewood, Ravenswood, Gainsborough, Westerfield and Bramford.

Questions people in Ipswich ask

Can landlords apply?

Private tenants can apply with the landlord's agreement. Landlords may need to pay part of the cost.

Is someone cold-calling me about a free boiler legit?

Be careful. Genuine schemes don't charge to check eligibility. Contact Warm Homes Suffolk directly using the details on its website.

Does it matter that I live in Kesgrave rather than Ipswich?

No. Warm Homes Suffolk covers both Ipswich Borough and East Suffolk, along with the county's other districts.
