Heating grants in Nottingham

What grants Nottingham households can apply for, who qualifies, and how long the waits are.

Nottingham City Council's Warm Homes: Local Grant is the main local scheme. It is run for the council by Nottingham Energy Partnership, and the council warns that it is oversubscribed. The waiting list could take up to a year, so if you think you qualify, register now rather than waiting for winter.

Who qualifies for the local grant

The home must be rated EPC D to G. Household income must be below £36,000 gross, or you must receive certain benefits, though the council says the limit can vary with housing costs and the number of children. Some postcodes qualify automatically.

It funds loft, cavity and solid wall insulation, solar panels, batteries and air source heat pumps. It is for owner-occupiers and private tenants, not council tenants.

How to apply

Contact Nottingham Energy Partnership, which processes applications for the council, by phone on 0115 947 2207 or through its online form. Have your EPC, proof of income or benefits and proof of address ready.

If you live outside the city boundary, in Gedling, Rushcliffe or Broxtowe, your borough council runs its own route into the scheme.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The national scheme gives £7,500 off an air or ground source heat pump and £2,500 off an air-to-air system. There is no income test. Your MCS installer applies. For the finer print on eligible homes, read our Boiler Upgrade Scheme guide.

Help from energy suppliers

The Energy Company Obligation, now in its fourth round, has until 31 December 2026 left to run according to Ofgem. It is delivered by energy suppliers and focuses on low-income households. The Great British Insulation Scheme has now closed.

How grants fit Nottingham homes

Victorian terraces

A solid-walled Nottingham terrace typically scores D or E on its EPC. External wall insulation can change the look of the street, so expect the council to have a view in conservation areas.

Interwar and post-war semis

Cavity wall and loft insulation are the quickest wins and can lift the EPC by a band.

City-centre flats and warehouse conversions

Grants for flats often need the whole block's agreement. Talk to the managing agent before applying.

Areas covered

Engineers who cover Nottingham work across areas including West Bridgford, Beeston, Wollaton, Sneinton, Lenton, Mapperley, Arnold, Carlton, Bulwell and Hucknall.

Questions people in Nottingham ask

Can council tenants get the Warm Homes: Local Grant?

No. Council homes are improved through separate social housing funding. Report cold or damp problems to your landlord.

Is a free boiler offer real?

The local grant does not fund gas boilers. Treat cold callers promising one with caution, and never pay an upfront fee.
