Warm Homes: Local Grant

It offers up to £15,000 for loft and cavity wall insulation, solar panels, air source heat pumps, high heat retention storage heaters, double glazing and energy-efficient doors.

You need an eligible postcode, a household income under £36,000 or a means-tested benefit, an EPC rating of D to G, and to own your home or rent privately. Aran Insulation handles most postcodes. 0800 Repair covers PE1, but the council has said it was temporarily unable to take new applications.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Anyone can get £7,500 towards a heat pump. Off-gas homes on oil or LPG get an extra £1,500 until March 2027, which matters in Peterborough, where around 2,700 homes rely on oil or LPG.

ECO4

ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026, but the council says funding is very limited and it doesn't expect significant new money before the scheme ends.

Other help

The council can refer residents to Cadent's Beyond the Meter scheme for gas safety checks, and to the free Local Energy Advice Partnership for advice on bills.

Avoiding grant scams

Genuine schemes don't charge a fee to check eligibility or to book a survey. If someone cold-calls about a free boiler and asks for money or bank details, hang up and contact the council or the named installer directly. Suspicious calls can be passed to Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.

Questions people in Peterborough ask

Do I need a letter from Aran to apply?

No. The council says you can contact the installer for your area without having received a letter.

What if my EPC is out of date?

The council says the scheme installers can arrange an EPC in the areas they cover. Landlords need a valid EPC to let a property anyway.
