Boiler repair in Doncaster
Tell us what's wrong and we pass the job to Gas Safe registered engineers covering your Doncaster postcode.
Almost every Doncaster home runs on gas. In the 2021 Census, 82.3% of households heated with mains gas alone, a higher share than Sheffield or Leeds. When a boiler fails here, it is usually the only source of heat and hot water in the house.
If you smell gas, don't touch switches. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and turn off the supply at the meter.

First, a few checks
Look at the pressure gauge. Most systems should read about 1 to 1.5 bar when cold. If it has fallen, top it up using the filling loop. If it falls again within days, there is a leak or a faulty valve, and you need an engineer.
In freezing weather, the condensate pipe outside may have frozen. Pour warm water over it and reset the boiler. Note any fault code on the display before you call.
Faults caused by scale
Yorkshire Water rates Doncaster's supply as hard. Scale shows up as hot water that runs hot then cold, a kettling noise from the boiler, and in time a blocked plate heat exchanger. Ask the engineer whether scale caused the fault. If so, fitting a scale reducer with the repair should stop it happening again soon.
Older systems
About half of Doncaster's homes were built between 1919 and 1972. Many have been through several boilers but still have original pipes and radiators. Sludge from those older parts clogs pumps, valves and heat exchangers, so a repair may need a system clean and a magnetic filter to last.
Doncaster homes and what they need
Interwar and postwar semis
A leaking feed and expansion tank in the loft can cause pressure and air problems on older open-vented systems. Check the loft if you hear gurgling.
Red-brick terraces in town and the former pit villages
Boilers in small kitchens can overheat if boxed in tightly. Leave space around the case.
Bungalows
Loft boilers in bungalows are harder to reach. Make sure the loft has a fixed ladder and light so a repair isn't delayed.
Areas covered
Engineers who cover Doncaster work across areas including Bessacarr, Balby, Armthorpe, Bentley, Wheatley, Hatfield, Thorne, Mexborough, Conisbrough and Tickhill.
Questions people in Doncaster ask
Repair or replace?
If the boiler is under ten years old and the heat exchanger is sound, repair is usually better value. For an older boiler with a major fault, compare the quote with our new boiler cost guide.
I rent. Who pays?
Your landlord. Report the breakdown in writing. Social housing tenants should use their landlord's repairs line.
