Mould removal and damp treatment in Warrington

We pass your request to damp and mould specialists who cover Warrington.

Warrington's housing is newer and more owner-occupied than in the big cities nearby, but mould still turns up in plenty of homes. In 1970s new town houses it tends to appear in bedroom corners and behind wardrobes on outside walls. In Victorian terraces near the centre, it's more often linked to penetrating damp through old brickwork.

Whatever the house, treatment only lasts if the cause is fixed first.

Condensation or damp?

Condensation forms when warm, moist indoor air hits a cold surface. It's worst in winter, on window reveals and in corners, and often clears up in summer.

Penetrating damp comes from outside: a leaking gutter, cracked render, failed pointing or a bridged cavity. It tends to get worse after heavy rain and shows as a damp patch that spreads, sometimes with salts on the plaster.

A good surveyor tells you which you have before recommending anything.

Tenants' rights

About 15% of Warrington households rent from social landlords, mostly housing associations. Since 27 October 2025, Awaab's Law requires them to investigate significant damp and mould hazards within 10 working days and start safety work within 5 working days of the investigation ending.

Private tenants, another 15%, can ask Warrington Borough Council to inspect if a landlord won't deal with damp caused by disrepair.

Help with insulation

Cold walls are often the root of condensation mould. Warrington's Warm Homes: Local Grant can fund cavity, solid wall and loft insulation for eligible lower-income households in homes rated EPC D to G, until March 2028.

Warrington homes and what they need

New town estates from the 1970s onwards

Early cavity insulation can settle or get wet, leaving cold patches. If mould follows the same line on a wall, ask for a thermal camera check.

Interwar and post-war semis

Mould at ceiling level in bedrooms often means missing insulation at the eaves, where it's hard to reach from the loft hatch.

Solid brick walls stay cold. Check gutters, downpipes and pointing before blaming condensation.

Questions people in Warrington ask

Can I clean mould myself?

Small areas, yes. Our guide on removing mould from walls covers the safe way. If it returns quickly, get the cause investigated.

Will a dehumidifier help?

It removes moisture from the air and helps where washing is dried indoors, but won't fix a leak.
